I wonder, will mobile marketing change the world as we know it?

They say that within the next 2 years (by 2012) there could be more mobile commerce transactions (m-commerce) than e-commerce transactions (regular computer based internet). I’m skeptical.

Sure, I agree that mobile is a revolution. I also love my iPhone more than I ever thought I could love an inanimate object, but that’s another story. I would even go so far as to say I think mobile will change our lives I just don’t know if I think we’re going to be buying products online at those volumes within 2 years.

Sure, mobile is brilliant for staying on top of your eBay bids, it will also be helpful in price comparisons through bar code scanning apps, but will I be going to Dick Smith Electronics and entering my credit card into that fiddly little screen with typos etc? I don’t think so. But I admit it, I’m not an early adopter. I’m a “let’s wait and see what the 2nd or 3rd generation product looks like once they’ve ironed out all the kinks”.

So, what do you think? Do you buy products through your mobile now? Do you think you’ll be part of the m-commerce revolution within the next 2 years?
